Electric Multiple Unit – “IMPULS 2”

31WEbc IMPULS 2 – is a four-segment electric multiple unit of the 31Webc type, produced by NEWAG SA from Nowy Sącz.

The second-generation Impulse is equipped with solutions to make travelling easier for passengers with different requirements. It has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and also has tinted windows, a diaper changing table, special holders/straps for securing bicycles and a carriage that can accommodate more bicycles thanks to a modified seating layout compared to the classic layout used in the other carriages, air conditioning, electrical sockets, a closed-circuit vacuum toilet and energy-efficient LED lighting.

IThe new Impulse II has a separate space for the train driver, including a built-in microphone for making announcements to passengers and a monitor for displaying the view from the internal cameras, plus an intercom for communication between passengers and the driver. A visual and audible passenger information system is also installed, notifying passengers of the route (stations, train number, time, arrival and departure times). The vehicle is also equipped with an Electronic Train Control System (ETCS), which is a European train control system that enhances safety by automatically transmitting train signalling information directly to the driver’s cab and a digital GSM-R communication system.
