Koleje Śląskie Sp. z o.o. in Katowice received non-repayable funding for the implementation of the Project within the framework of the development plan (National Reconstruction Plan) titled “Procurement of a zero-emission rolling stock for Koleje Śląskie Sp. z o.o. in Katowice” which constituted part of the Investment no. E2.1.2. Passenger rolling stock within the framework of the National Reconstruction and Resilience Plan subsidised by the European Union.
The Project comprises the delivery of five brand new four-compartment single-deck electric multiple units (EMUs) to Koleje Śląskie in Katowice. The EMUs are intended to serve routes with an average annual mileage of around 180,000 kilometres transporting regional passenger traffic. The minimum seating capacity of each of the EMUs is 186 people, and the minimum total number of passengers is 390.
The new rolling stock will be used exclusively on regional routes. The EMUs are to be equipped with all rail traffic safety devices (SHP, CA/SIFA, radio telephone) enabling independent operation on all normal railway lines in accordance with the requirements of PKP PLK S.A. and will have the ETCS system installed, which is part of the ERTMS system.
Each EMU featured within the scope of the project will be equipped with internal and external CCTV cameras. The EMUs will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. They will have two spots for wheelchair users, which will be marked appropriately, and a lightweight platform to facilitate wheelchair access.
Additional facilities for people with disabilities include:
- the doors adjacent to the wheelchair area will be equipped with an additional push-button marked with a pictogram according to PRM TSI or equivalent, which will open the door and keep it open,
- an induction loop for the d/Deaf and hard-of-hearing will be installed.
