The carriage of a dog (no more than one, regardless of size) accompanied by an adult passenger is permitted provided that the dog is not aggressive or disruptive, is on a leash and muzzled, has a valid ticket for the carriage of a dog and a current certificate of vaccination against rabies. The dog must not occupy a seat and its handler must ensure that the area in which it is transported is clean and tidy.
Note! Other passengers must agree to travel with the dog. If they protest, the passenger with a dog should move to a compartment for passengers with large luggage, or even leave the train. The consent of other passengers is not required for the carriage of animals in compartments for passengers with large luggage, dogs that are guides or assistants for disabled persons, or service dogs with a handler.
If the dog (or other pet) is small, it can be placed in a suitable container, cage or basket and is then treated as hand luggage. In this case, there is no charge for its carriage.
On the other hand, if the dog does not travel in a container, a ticket must be purchased for it with a flat fee as specified in the Price List for Carriage Services (C-KŚ) – Section IV TP-KŚ. except:
- a guide dog for a blind person;
- an assisting dog.
In order to be refunded for a fully or partially unused ticket, the passenger must obtain the appropriate validation of the ticket.
In the event of a total cancellation, the ticket must therefore be presented at the check-in desk at the departure station or at the point where the ticket was purchased within the validity period. On the other hand, if a passenger has already started a journey but does not intend to continue to his or her destination, it is still necessary to report on board the train to the train crew, who will affix the appropriate certification to the ticket.
Refunds for a fully or partially unused ticket will be made at the check-in desk on the basis of the original ticket provided by the passenger. Refunds for unused tickets, duly certified, will be made by the check-in desk selling tickets of a given time – within three months of the first day of validity of the ticket.
For a fully unused ticket, the amount paid will be refunded, minus a return fee, and for a partially unused ticket, the difference between the amount paid and the amount due for the actual journey will be refunded.
A refund for a ticket for which a VAT invoice has been issued can be made within a period of up to three months at any Silesian Railways check-in desk selling tickets of a given type, starting from the first day of validity of the ticket, provided that it is presented together with the VAT invoice. In this case, the check-in desk will issue a corrected invoice. In other cases, refunding may be sought by way of a claim according to the rules specified in sec. 22 of the Rules for the Carriage of Persons of the Silesian Railways (RPO-KŚ).
A refund for an unused ticket paid for with a payment card will only be made at a check-in desk equipped with a card-reading device and only with the card used to make the payment – provided that the sales receipt issued at the time of purchase is presented. Cash refunds are not permitted.
For a fully unused multiple fare ticket returned before the start of the validity period, the fare paid, minus the return fee, will be refunded.
A partially unused ticket:
- periodic section ticket:
- monthly – returned no later than the tenth day of its validity;
- quarterly – returned no later than the thirtieth day of its validity;
- line monthly ticket – returned no later than the tenth day of its validity;
- network ticket:
- monthly – returned no later than the tenth day of its validity;
- annual – returned no later than before the expiry of one-third of its validity period;
is refunded in proportion to the time during which it could not be used.
Partially unused tickets mentioned above are refunded after deduction of the return fee.
Refunds for a fully or partially unused ticket will be made at the check-in desk on the basis of the original ticket provided by the passenger.
Additional charges are commonly referred to as ‘penalties’ or ‘fines’ and are collected when the following findings are made during an on-train inspection:
- lack of an appropriate transport document;
- lack of a valid document confirming entitlement to free or reduced fares;
- non-payment of charges for goods or animals taken by people for carriage or violation of the regulations on their carriage;
- causing, without a justified reason, the means of transport to stop or change its route.
These charges are set out in the Price List for Carriage Services (C-KŚ) – Section IV TP-KŚ and result from the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 20 January 2015 on the manner of determining the amount of additional charges for the carriage of persons, goods and animals taken with them for carriage and the amount of the handling charge.
