14WE – the electric multiple units of the 14WE type were manufactured by NEWAG in Nowy Sącz between 2005 and 2007, based on the popular EN57 units. The official presentation of the vehicle took place at the Trako International Railway Fair in October 2005 in Gdańsk. In the same year, SKM Warsaw put 6 vehicles into service.

A total of only 9 units of this type were produced, of which the Silesian Railways owns 2 vehicles. 14WE vehicles numbered 01 and 03 were introduced into service by the Silesian Railways in December 2012. The vehicles are characterised by a completely new body design compared to the well-known EN57 type vehicles.

In order to increase the vehicle’s functionality in urban agglomeration traffic, a decision was made to create a compartmentless interior, with vandal-proof seats, handrails and posts serving as hand grips for standing passengers, as well as luggage racks. The vehicles also include two lifts to facilitate boarding for people with impaired mobility, four dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and eight bicycle racks. Completely new control panels and adjustable seats are installed in the driver’s cabs.

Between 2016 and 2017, the vehicles were fitted with a closed-circuit toilet accessible for people on wheelchairs. A state-of-the-art passenger information system and a monitoring and intercom systems were also installed.
